Project Empowerment
To end poverty, we must determine a set of “preconditions for prosperity . ” We believe that the preconditions should incorporate an educational foundation for success - both academic and social. J T YPL provides a variety of trainings and workshops that provides the foundation needed to help individuals come out of poverty through education and skill development. Though the skill development and education, JTYPL works with corporations to provide economic opportunities and job placement to individuals needing work experience. Stop the Abuse Campaign
National Campaigns
The Stop the Abuse Campaign" is a movement to help individuals become aware of the signs of intimate dating violence and identify resources to prevent dating violence and victimization. The Campaign addresses the epidemic of teenage dating violence by forming a coalition of concerned citizens, proactive organizations, and government agencies who are committed to empowering today’s youth. By creating a dialogue that focuses on facilitating an honest discussion about how certain dating behavior can lead to abuse, teenagers embark on a journey to find out what it means to have a loving relationship. The campaign infuses arts and self-expression with the industry’s best practices and prevention strategies to deliver information to young adults about the dangers of intimate partner dating violence through a variety of mass mediums.
We offer workshops around the connection between domestic abuse and the hook-up culture. For more information click here.
International Initiatives
Mission for Africa
Mission for Africa’s vision is to see people with special needs and HIV leading happy fulfilling lives by providing the urgent and critical medical care these individuals need and lack access. We provide people with special needs with medical attention and care. We focus on providing medical services to people with physical and/or mental disabilities.
Tanzania, as well as, other developing countries considers disabilities a curse and an unnecessary strain on the family resources. These children are usually discarded, disregarded and disrespected for the majority of their lives. They are given little to no access to medical care as healthy children are considered a priority given the perception of their ability to contribute to the family and society. Thus, most the families are unaware of what they should do with their disabled and deny them the basic needs, therefore many die before reaching the age of five years. Those that survive suffer in silence. With no voice.
T.E.A.C.H. Initiative
The TEACH Initiative is JTYPL’s long-term solution to sustaining the fight against poverty in Africa. Bring doctors & medical supplies to remote villages and people living with special needs is only our immediate solution the international plight of extreme poverty. Studies have shown that a lack of economic opportunities, workforce training, and basic education are the root causes to long lasting poverty. JTYPL believes Training, Education, Advocacy, Compassion, and Humanitarianism are the sustainable components to achieving long-term solution. JTYPL has launched an initiative that brings together proven sustainability strategies to help boost local economies and educate communities. We provided funds to Tanzania for a new toilet system as well as seed money to build a school for girls - thanks to a generous donation from one of our advisory members. JTYPL has committed to continual support for the girls school in the form of monetary donations, supplies, training, microcredit, technology, etc. Contact us directly if you want to learn more about how you can help.

Partnering Events
TEDxUStreet Events
Dates: May 6, 2023 & November 2023
JTYPL is the fiscal agent & partner for all TEDxUStreetWomen & TEDxUStreet Live events. TEDxUStreet are local TEDx events celebrating the U Street Corridor community. Known as Washington’s cultural center at the turn of the century, U Street has long been a backbone of the city’s homegrown jazz, arts, and civil rights movements. Once bearing the scars of riots and protests, today it has regained its rightful place as the street to showcase DC’s vibrant cultural life, from music and food to activism and art. U Street has historically brought Washingtonians together to the sound of its homegrown music, from jazz and blues to rock and go-go.
Today its renovated clubs, new restaurants and shops are once again the center of DC’s humming nightlife. U Street is home for those who want to march to their own beat. U Street is both historic and colorful, boasting some of the richest culture of the city and full of bars, restaurants, and boutiques – as well as plenty of DC locals who come to enjoy the culture and the people-watching.
TEDxUStreetWomens mantra is Bold + Brilliant = Badass. What do we mean when we say, Bold + Brilliant = Badass? To be Bold, means you are willing to speak out for the issues that mean the most to you. To be Brilliant, means you have the experience, knowledge, and passion needed to advocate for your idea. When you combine Bold + Brilliant, the result = a Badass. Being a Badass means that, despite your fear, any potential backlash/criticism, or how unpopular your idea maybe to some, you will still push forward to share your truth.
Are you ready to be a part of a network and connect with individuals who are Bold, Brilliant and Badass?
TEDxUStreetSalon Events
Dates: April, July and October 2021
JTYPL is currently a partner for the TEDxUStreetSalon events. TEDxUStreetSalon is a local, independently organized event to be to be held in Washington DC. We want this to be an event that strives to recreate the unique experience found at TED, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers congregate to share what they are most passionate about. At its core, the fundamental goal of TED and TEDxUStreetSalon is to foster and spread great ideas. We aim to provide a platform where the smartest thinkers, greatest visionaries, and most fascinating teachers will be inspired and will have the opportunity to inspire others.
The organizers of the event decided to expand the TEDxUStreet brand because I recognized that I was missing a critical market audience – men. The TEDxUStreetWomen conference is the signature event of the TEDxUStreet brand. TedxUStreetSalon events provide additional value to the brand by having several smaller events before and after the TEDxUStreetWomen conference. These events do not to replace each other but complement each other. TEDxSalons are designed to be small but impactful. A critical element of salon is lively discussions, allowing attendees to actively participate in the event. With much smaller audiences, salons bring attendees together in more intimate spaces, and with more chances to get know and exchange ideas with each
other.

"Our environment greatly influences our ability to dream and believe in ourselves. Individuals who have been deprived of nurturing resources such as basic education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and community support have difficulty setting long-term goals and finding the willpower to reach them.
